Day 29: Dark, Cold, Lonely, Tired & Sore

This morning was tough. I was up until 2am last night finishing a client's project and then back up at 6am to start my P90X workout. My schedule has changed and I have to leave my house by 7:45am to get my oldest son, Ryan, to work. His car suffered a recent fatal heart attack and he's without a vehicle for a few weeks. I don't mind at all though. Ryan's a huge help around the house and more than worth it.

When I walked into my home gym, it was dark, cold and lonely. The frickin' roosters weren't even awake. Not only was I extremely exhausted but my right shoulder was hurting like hell. I think I strained it during Yoga X on Saturday. However, I dug deep, vowed to do this thing, and popped Disc 9 - Chest, Shoulders and Triceps into my DVD player. This disk is a new workout that P90X incorporates into Phase 2 weeks 5-7.

This workout consists of 24 different exercises and focuses more on intensity than weight. The exercises were hard but I thought the overall workout was easier than normal. That's probably because it was such a cool morning. When it starts to warm up outside, the heat saps your strength and makes any workout seem tough. Since, my shoulder was hurting, I had to skip three of the exercises. I was able to do the push ups and triceps exercises but anything that involved a shoulder press was too painful. I'm not going to risk injury so I stop as soon as I feel pain.

It was a tough morning and a long, hard work day. However, I've finished my workout and know that I can relax when I get home...and make dinner for my sons...and help with homework....and do some laundry...and maybe join Ryan at LA Fitness for some cardio interval training in the spinning room. Eek!!!
