Day 49: First Contact

Boy, did I get a surprise today. I actually touched my toes towards the end of my Stretching X workout. During the P90X assessment, 49 long days ago, I was 14" away from those 10 little piggies and today I touched them. Granted, I was huffing and puffing just like that Big Bad Wolf.

Although I have a vivid memory of biting my toenails when I was 3-4 years old, I have no other memories of being flexible. I've been a stiffy as long as I can remember. I'm sure part of my inflexibility is genetic, but to be honest, I have never put any effort into it. Stretching was always a pain in the ass, so I avoided it.

Nowadays, I do an easy stretch before and after each day's P90X workout. I also do at least one Stretching X and one Yoga X workout each week. On recovery weeks, like the one starting tomorrow, I do two Stretching X's and two Yoga X's. I figure I've spent over 20 hours stretching during the last seven weeks. That's why I'm I'm finally seeing some serious progress.

After today's success, I am motivated to push myself even harder as I continue to work to increase my flexibility. Tomorrow starts my second recovery week so I'm going to be doing four days of flexibility workouts and believe me, I am going to put renewed effort into it.
